Briqs Rib Mountain: A New Concession Stand in the Making

Wausau is gearing up to welcome a new concession stand at Riverlife Park, courtesy of Briqs Rib Mountain. The proposed initial terms were released in December, and while the details are still being finalized, Council Member Pat Peckham has provided some insight into what's in store.

According to Peckham, Briqs Rib Mountain will operate from approximately May 1 through October 1, weather permitting. During this time, they'll offer a range of treats including 'grab and go' snacks and soft-serve ice cream. The initial plan called for a monthly lease rate of $750 per month for a three-year term, with options to renew at a 3 percent increase for each subsequent three-year term.

However, after an initial review by the committee, proposed rent has been increased to $1,000 per month. Additionally, Peckham notes that after the initial three-year rental period, Briqs Rib Mountain will have the opportunity to negotiate a rent increase greater than the 3 percent rate.

Other key details include Briqs Rib Mountain paying all personal property taxes as required by law, with Wausau handling any real estate taxes. Utilities will be the responsibility of the concession stand, and they'll also be responsible for maintaining restrooms and managing other amenities such as bike and kayak rentals.

The full council is expected to vote on the proposal on March 12. This new amenity is part of Riverlife Park, a roughly $4.6 million project that will feature state-of-the-art playground equipment, outdoor exercise equipment, climbing nets, and more. All amenities will be located just steps from the river along the riverfront trail.

Construction began in May and is expected to be complete by spring 2019. Interestingly, Briqs Rib Mountain was the only business to respond to Wausau's request for proposals for the operation. The company currently operates seasonal locations in several other areas, including Wausau, Weston, Rib Mountain, Mosinee, Merrill, Rhinelander, and Minocqua.

With their experience running successful concession stands across the region, Briqs Rib Mountain is poised to bring a unique and enjoyable experience to Riverlife Park. As details continue to emerge, it's clear that this new amenity will be a fantastic addition to Wausau's growing list of attractions.
